DAVE DOWN UNDER
David Michael Brown visited the Acolytes location in April 2007.
This week I was lucky enough to be flown up to Brisbane to visit the set of ‘Bloodlust’ director Jon Hewitt’s ‘Acolytes’. Featuring ‘Smoking Aces’ and ‘Star Wars Epsiode 1: The Phantom Menace’ star Joel Edgerton; the film is a twisting thriller that, from what I saw on set, promises to be a chilling and shocking ride.
I look forward to writing up the trip in a future issue of Shivers. Thanks, as always, to Fiona Searson for arranging the trip.
I recently headed up the coast to Queensland to visit the set of Jon Hewitt’s Acolytes. Hewitt will be familiar to some for his 1992 vampiric gore fest Bloodlust but here he is taking a different track.
The film stars Joel Edgerton, a known face in Australia but Uncle Owen from Star Wars Episodes 1 to 3 to the rest of the world. A serial killer film with a twist, taking a hyper realistic approach, the scenes we were witness to were extremely disturbing, Hewitt is certainly getting some strong performances from his young cast.
The film is due for release next year; I’ll be able to tell more then. I’ll be travelling to Queensland again tomorrow to visit the set of Carter Smith’s The Ruins. Based on the novel by Scott. B. Smith; author of Sam Raimi’s A Simple Plan, the film stars Jena Malone, the on screen girlfriend of Frighfest favourite Donnie Darko.
