Acolytes Scores AWGIE Nomination

Queensland feature Acolytes has been nominated for a prestigious AWGIE Award in the category of best Original Feature Film.

The AWGIE Awards are open to Australian Writer’s Guild (AWG) members and are the only Australian writing awards judges solely by writers.

Acolytes, about a group of teenagers who uncover a twisted plot of murder and intrigue, was penned by local writing duo Shayne Armstrong and Shane Krause (both pictured), and co-written with Jon Hewitt.

The two Shanes created the script for Acolytes in between lecturing, copywriting and directing commercials as well as writing and consulting on various projects for the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and 20th Century Fox.

The thriller was filmed in and around Brisbane in 2007 and was produced by Penny Wall and Richard Stewart of Brisbane company Stewart Wall Entertainment.

Acolytes received investment from the Pacific Film and Television Commission and the Film Finance Corporation.

The 41st annual AWGIE Awards will be presented at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne on Friday 15 August 2008.
